Venturing to Congress Street in downtown Portsmouth, NH, one will find many businesses that are worth stepping into. From boutique shops to local restaurants, there is something for everyone. And that includes places where you can grab a beer. You can grab 116 different beers if it suits you, at 21 Congress St, Portsmouth, NH. Introducing the Thirsty Moose Taphouse, brought to you by the Port's Mouth with the help of Director of Marketing, Steve Stellmach!
Thanks for having us Steve, please tell us about this fine establishment.
We would describe the general vibe of our establishment as casual while also catering to an upscale taste. For example, our staffs knowledge of our 116 beers brings in an intelligent beer drinker whilst also allowing for the novice to learn and try new craft beers. Our downstairs lounge also caters to both casual and formal audiences, contingent upon the genre of the music. we cater to any and all needs, wants, and tastes. Our menu, with all fresh in house made and smoked ingredients, ranges from $4 to the highest entree being only $19. This does not detract from the quality and care put into making our meals even if it's considered "pub" food.
To get things going we had to try the wings. What makes these so great, Steve?
The jumbo wings are all smoked in-house. Order them grilled or fried, whichever is your preference. With 11 choices of sauces, and some special in-house made sauces, it ranges from sweet to spicy and a combo of sweet n spicy. The wings flavor can stand alone without any sauces with their smokey flavor alone.
Pizza & Beer? Can't say no to that. Next up is the Thai Chicken Chili Pizza paired with a cold refreshing beer on tap.
This pizza has house smoked chicken with red onions, bell peppers, and pineapple with a sweet 'n spicy Thai chili sauce topped with cheese. All of our pizzas from just your average pepperoni to our gourmet pies are hand made and stretched in house and can be made to order with a wide variety of toppings, sauces and cheeses.
For the Grand Finale we ended our dinner with the Chimichurri Steak Tips. Please tell us about this delicious menu item.
One of our premier dishes served is the Chimichurri Steak Tips. It is tender angus steak tips in a sherry wine vinaigrette and herb marinade, topped with our chefs own secret chimichurri sauce. The tips are a high quality cut 10oz meat that most bars and restaurants don't use or their tips so it'll cut their cost. Obviously this detracts from the tenderness and flavor that we are able to provide.
The food at the Thirsty Moose is fantastic, and the options for beer are endless! Thanks for a great experience Steve. Please tell us what it means to be an independent locally owned business in Portsmouth, NH.
As the proprietor of the business, Joe Kelly, owns several businesses in the area (Joe's NY Pizza, Fat Bellies, I Like That T-Shirts, etc.) the owners and staff are very proud of our community and are vigilant in providing an establishment that not only is comfortable for out-of-towners but focuses on being a first name basis with our local regulars, having local musicians in our downstairs lounge, but also the Moose employs over 80 people that live in the area. Creating jobs, good food, and good times for the city and community is a major goal that only helps other local independent businesses. Success breeds success.
